There are several institutions in America that are fundamentally hostile to traditional American civil liberties such as the right to bear arms. Some of these organizations often have nothing to do with the Second Amendment, much less gun ownership.
The American Bar Association, the most prominent bar association in America, is among the most rabidly anti-gun institutons in America. Its latest actions showcase how hostile it is to civilian gun ownership.
According to the ABA Journal, the ABA House of Delegates passed two civilian disarmament resolutions at the 2022 ABA Annual Meeting in Chicago
One of the resolutions calls on legislators to prevent gun purchases from being carried out after three business days, even if the background check is not fully processed. The second proposal urges lawmakers to adopt stronger measures to prevent violent dating partners and stalkers from purchasing or possessing firearms.
In addition, demands for tougher background checks soon came after. Matt Reynolds of ABA Journal noted that Resolution 601 was passed on May 8. This bill calls on state and federal officials to give law enforcement increased time to complete background checks to prevent criminals from acquiring firearms.
Per federal law, gun purchases automatically move forward after three business days. There was a report that accompanied the resolution that stated there should be more time to execute a background check via the National Instant Criminal Background Check System.
On August 9, the ABA adopted Resolution 801, which called on state and federal elected officials to take stronger measures against people “convicted of dating violence, stalking, domestic violence or subject to protective orders issued to prevent these crimes—including emergency ex parte orders—are not allowed to buy a firearm.” On top of that, this resolution demands that elected officials require these individuals to turn in their firearms.
It comes to no surprise why the ABA is backing such measures. Like most elite institutions, the ABA can’t stand the Second Amendment. It’s among the many non-state actors that works assiduously to attack the right to bear arms.
We must never forget that the fight against despotism is multi-faceted in nature. Fights aren’t just confined to state legislatures. Many of these fights are taking place in civil society, corporate boardrooms, and in the non-profit space. Not everyone can be a political actor.
To have the most robust opposition against Gun Control Inc., our side will need professionals such as lawyers on our side. It behooves gun owners to build networks of like-minded lawyers and other professionals to stand up against elite networks that assault our freedoms. Our dysfunctional elite can only be challenged by a new, more competent elite who is willing speak uncomfortable truths and make the ruling class sweat.
