San Diego County Wants to Continue its Assault on Home-Made Firearms

Some of the gun control crowd’s fixations are hard to get rid of. For example, its recent obsession with “ghost guns”, which are in reality homemade firearms. This is a tradition that predates the founding of the nation — an uncomfortable fact that further infuriates the gun control Left.

On October 19th, the San Diego County Board of Supervisors considered a proposal to continue micro-managing the time-honored liberty of making firearms for personal use.

This proposal goes above the current boundaries of California law by defining “’ghost guns,’ precursor parts for such guns and unserialized parts and guns.” In addition, the possession of unserialized parts for constructing firearms and the creation of unserialized firearms or precursor parts exclusively through 3D printing was prohibited. Furthermore, a one-size-fits-all requirements for firearm storage was imposed.

Under California law, individuals are required to submit an application and receive serial numbers prior to assembling a homemade firearm and established a designated time for application.

Though it should be noted that California law does not prohibit the possession of “materials” with serial numbers that lack the necessary milling to be deemed a completed frame or receiver. In addition, it is already prohibited under federal and state law for prohibited persons, which includes felons, to own firearms, irrespective of whether they are factory, commercial firearms, or made at home.

The new restrictions that San Diego County is pursuing will deprive access to lawful citizens who want to build firearms for their personal use. In addition, this ordinance's obssesive focus on 3D printing will hurt the many tinkerers in this new manufacturing process and impede their ability to experiment with new techniques that could potentially bring about innovations in the firearms space.

The anti-gun Left doesn't care for the right to bear arms, and when they fail in depriving the right in one regard, they'll find every means possible to lash out at gun owners. These schemes must be opposed at all costs. In these times of tension, we cannot cede an inch to these control freaks.
