Several Colorado Teachers are Arming Themselves to Protect Students

Colorado has turned into one of the most anti-gun states in the country over the past decade or so. Ever since the Aurora movie theater massacre of 2012, Colorado’s ruling class has made gun control a major part of their agenda. Following this shooting massacre, the state government was able to pass a ban on high-capacity magazines and universal background checks

Several years later, the Colorado state government passed red flag gun confiscation orders in 2019 and a mandatory firearm storage law in 2021

From the looks of it, Colorado looks to be firmly in the anti-gun column. However, FASTER Colorado Executive Director Laura Carno wants to change that. FASTER Colorado is an organization that’s dedicated to training teachers to use firearms in a responsible manner, specifically in active shooter situations at schools.

Cam Edwards of Bearing Arms recently had a conversation with Carno about the increased interest in armed school staff in the Rocky Mountain state. In the interview, Carno claimed that at least 37 of Colorado’s 178 school districts already have armed staff at schools. On top of that, she believes that there are other districts that have put staff under training programs that are separate from the training programs FASTER Colorado provides.

Similarly, Carno says that over a dozen districts have contacted Carno since the Uvalde massacre, which showcased one of the most incompent and cowardly law enforcement responses to a mass shooting situation in recent memory.

Colorado is ranked in 40th place according to Guns & Ammo magazine’s best state for gun owners rankings.  This is no state that’s friendly to gun owners and the right to bear arms. However, Americans are a hardy people that don’t just give up in the face of adversity.

Carno’s example shows that Americans will always find ways to legally arm themselves for the purposes of self-defense. Gun Control Inc. might have several states under their thumbs, but there will always be people who are ready to fight back.
