In a transparently politically-motivated move, Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Nikki Fried suspended the concealed weapon’s licenses of 22 Floridians charged with crimes related to January 6th.
She timed the announcement to match with the start of Nancy Pelosi’s January 6th Commission committee, and put out a statement making clear she did it out of spite.
“The deeply disturbing events that occurred at our nation’s Capitol on January 6th were sedition, treason, and domestic terrorism – and those individuals involved in the insurrection must be held accountable for attempting to subvert our democratic process,” said Fried. “Since charges began being filed, we are using our lawful authority to immediately suspend the licenses of 22 individuals involved in the storming of the U.S. Capitol.”
Fried went further on Twitter, stating that those who participated in the so-called “insurrection” were instigated by then-President Donald Trump.
I just suspended the concealed weapons permits of 22 people involved in the insurrection against the United States of America instigated by Donald Trump on January 6, 2021.

Fried is the only state-wide elected Democrat in Florida.
The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services handles concealed weapon’s permits, from approval to reporting on the number of permits.
She has the ability to suspend the permits of anybody charged with a felony or another disqualifying offense. Once the person is convicted, she will further have the power to fully revoke their permits.
So while this move is clearly politically motivated, it is allowed due to weak-kneed Republicans refusing to pass actual pro-gun legislation, like Constitutional Carry. When you are forced to beg the government for permission to carry a firearm, they are also able to strip that right away.
