Less than a week after Joe Biden set up a commission on packing the Supreme Court, Democrats have announced that they will indeed be pushing forward with the extreme scheme by attempting to add four seats to the highest court.
As Axios reports, Democrats introduced a bill to expand the Supreme Court from nine to thirteen Justices.
This would allow President Joe Biden to immediately nominate four Supreme Court Justices, and change the make-up of the court from leaning conservative to being solidly left-wing. That change is necessary in order to implement some of the extreme anti-gun schemes Democrats have been working up.
While the Heller decision hasn’t been the strongest defense of gun rights, it has prevented all-out gun bans, and set the framework for every single state having some sort of permitting process that is possible to navigate for citizens.
There is currently no chance of overturning such a decision with the make-up of the court, but if Joe Biden throws in four extreme-left Justices into the mix, there is no way that it will be able to survive once challenged.
Democrat Rep. Jerry Nadler is the chief proponent of court packing, claimed that adding new seats to the court isn’t actually “court packing,” but it rather “un-packing” the court.
“As our country has grown so should the Supreme Court. 13 justices for 13 circuits is a logical progression and that is another reason why I’m glad to join my colleagues in introducing the Judiciary Act of 2021 to establish the Supreme Court size as 13,” Nadler said. “It’s a nice number, it matches — it is not a nice number. It is a proper number that matches the number of circuits as it has historically and it also will enable us to do justice and to rectify the great injustice done in packing the court.”
“Some people will say we’re packing the court. We’re not packing it, we’re unpacking it,” Nadler continued, arguing that former President Donald Trump packed the court by appointing nominees, as was his constitutional duty.
For her part, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is speaking out against the measure, stating that she will not allow a court packing vote to hit the House Floor. But Democrats said the same thing going into the 2020 election, making her words difficult to believe.
In order to pack the court, Democrats will most likely have to remove the filibuster through the nuclear option, which will allow the Senate vote to pass with a simple majority, rather than with 60 votes.
Democrats have been laying the groundwork for that move for years, with former President Barack Obama claiming that the filibuster is racist, referring to it as a “Jim Crow relic.”
If the Court is packed with liberal justices, and the filibuster is removed, the Second Amendment will be in more danger than it ever has been in U.S. history.
